Rat removal & trapping programs

For active infestations. The specialist maps activity — droppings, trails, nesting — then sets a trapping program sized to the colony, with scheduled checks and adjustments until activity stops. Trapping-first means minimal chemical exposure in living spaces, and carcasses are removed, not left in walls. Typical program pricing starts in the low hundreds and is confirmed by written estimate after inspection.

Rodent exclusion & sealing

The permanent fix, and the step most general pest services skip. Rats enter through gaps as small as a quarter: foundation vent screens, sill-plate gaps, pipe and conduit penetrations, roof and attic vents, garage door corners, and utility openings. Exclusion seals every identified entry point with chew-proof materials — galvanized mesh, metal flashing, concrete, and steel wool composites — so the colony outside stays outside. Full-home exclusion commonly runs $500–$2,500 depending on home size and the number of entry points, quoted in writing first.

Do this one yourself: foundation (crawlspace) vents are the entry point you can close today. Our vent-cover pick is a steel-mesh foundation vent cover with picture-frame trim — 1/8-inch galvanized mesh stops rats, mice, and bees cold while the vent still breathes, and it installs from outside in a couple of minutes with no stucco or siding work. (Plastic vent covers don't count — rats chew through them in a night.) Measure your opening first: this size fits rough openings about 4½–6½ inches high by 13–14½ inches long, and 5×13 or 4.5×13 with the spacer tabs removed.

Sister service: sealing and rodent proofing is also a trade of its own. Our sister service Boise Rodent Proofing does entry-point sealing, steel vent covers, and ordinance compliance inspections as a dedicated carpentry service — including documented compliance files for property managers. Treasure Valley Rat Control and Boise Rodent Proofing are sister services under the same local ownership: we refer work between them openly, and the standard is the same on both.

Attic & crawlspace cleanup

Attic insulation of the kind rats nest in and contaminate
Attic insulation is prime rat nesting material — and once it's contaminated with droppings and urine, it has to come out. Photo: Wikimedia Commons.

After a long infestation, the damage stays behind: droppings and urine in insulation, nesting material, chewed ductwork and moisture barriers. Cleanup removes contaminated material, sanitizes affected areas, and replaces insulation where needed — the work that turns an $18,000 damage story into a closed chapter. Scope and pricing follow the inspection; severe restoration is quoted separately.

Prevention plans

Rats remember good habitat. A prevention plan keeps exterior stations monitored and entry points inspected on a recurring schedule, with early-warning checks each season — especially before winter, when canal-bank rats move toward houses. Plans are the cheapest rat control there is: prevention costs a fraction of one infestation.

Plan members get priority. If you're on a prevention plan and rats show up anyway, your call jumps the line: members get priority response ahead of new work, because a small problem caught the day it's reported is cheaper for everyone than a colony caught next month. That's the deal the membership buys — not just scheduled visits, but your place in line when it matters.

For property managers & landlords — the plan that documents itself

The ordinance puts structural conditions — and the abatement bill — on the owner, and enforcement starts December 1, 2026. So what we sell managers is the one thing that answers it: a prevention plan with the documentation built in.

Here's the deal. Put a property on the plan and our vetted specialist services it on a recurring schedule — monitoring, entry-point checks, early-warning inspections each season. After every visit, you get the paperwork: a dated report with photos, findings, and any work done, filed per property. A rat problem shows up anyway? Plan members get priority response — and the response gets documented too.

Stack those reports up and you hold a compliance file for every door you manage: proof you were actively fighting the problem and spending money on it, not ignoring it. When the city or a tenant asks what you've done, you don't explain — you hand them the file. That's the product: peace of mind, on paper.

One plan covers one rental; portfolios get quoted in a single call. Call (208) 934-2848, or request a callback and tell us how many doors you manage.

What an appointment looks like

  1. Call. You describe what you've seen or heard. Calls are answered by the specialist's team and recorded for quality.
  2. Inspection. Attic, crawlspace, roofline, foundation, and garage — entry points and activity documented, photos where useful.
  3. Written estimate. Removal, exclusion, and cleanup itemized separately, so you can see exactly what each dollar does.
  4. Work & follow-through. Scheduled checks until activity stops, exclusion sealed, and a prevention recommendation in plain language.
Rentals and property managers: see the paper-trail section above — under this ordinance, a documented professional response is what protects you and your tenants.
